CONGRATULATIONS to Dylan Hassett, Ama Larbi, Keturah Williams and Rachel Thorne for representing the girls Alpharetta Track team and earning the school a 4th place team trophy at this past weekend's State Track meet!! With only 4 girls competing in 6 events, this is quite an accomplishment!! Rachel placed 5th in the 1600m, Keturah placed 3rd in both the 100m and 200m dash, Ama placed 8th in the 400m and 4th in the 300m hurdles and Dylan is the new State Champion in the 3200m with a new school record of 11:10:66!! Way to go girls!!! You should be very proud of yourselves that you all placed in the top 8 in each of your events and have proven that you are the elite in the state of Georgia!!
Good luck to Drew Branch and Alex Wheat this weekend at the Boys State meet. It is your turn to represent AHS!!!
This is a reminder that our Track banquet is this Sunday at 5pm in the cafeteria. The banquet form can be found here. Even though each athlete's banquet meal has already been paid for in their registration fees, I must have a RSVP from every athlete if you are planning on attending the banquet so I will know how much food to order. The deadline to RSVP is this Friday. Please turn your forms in to Coach Hudson or mail to me. The dress code for the banquet is business casual - no jeans or ripped clothes!!! I have only heard from 2 parents who have offered to help with the banquet - please reply to this email and let me know if you can help with set up, serving the food, or clean up.
Hang in there everyone - only 2 more weeks of school!! Woo-hoo!!! -melanie
Congratulations to the following boys who set new school records last weekend at the Boys Region meet: Drew Branch - 300m hurdles, Yoni Bereket - 800m, Alex Wheat - Triple Jump, and the Boys 4 X 100 meter relay team. Good luck to Drew Branch and Alex Wheat who qualified for the Boys State meet!! A big thank you to all of the parents and athletes who came out last weekend and volunteered at the region meet.
Good luck to Ama Larbi, Dylan Hassett, Keturah Williams and Rachel Thorne as they compete this weekend at the Girls State meet.
The end of year banquet will be Sunday, May 16th, at 5pm in the cafeteria. All banquet invitation forms must be turned in by May 14th. The $100 track and field registration fee included the cost of the athlete's banquet meal but ALL ATHLETES MUST RSVP IF THEY PLAN TO ATTENDTHE BANQUET so I will know how much food to order. A banquet committee is needed to help with this so please email me (Melanie) if you would like to help on the committee. Seniors are asked to bring a tri-fold board or foam board with pictures of themselves to the banquet so we can acknowledge our graduating seniors.
The local Spirit Track Club is hosting a meet at AHS this Saturday. The meet is open to any high school athlete who would like to compete. The events scheduled are: 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000m, 4x400, shot put, javelin, high jump and long jump. If anyone is interested in participating or would like more info, contact Bridget Thorne. Registration ends at midnight on Thursday. In order to offset costs (track rental, janitor fees, etc..), there will be a $3 competitor fee.
Congratulations to the girls for placing 3rd at Regions - they missed 2nd place by only 4 points!! Also, congratulations to the following girls who are going on to compete at State this year - Rachel Thorne, Ama Larbi, Keturah Williams and Dylan Hassett. Rachel set a new school record in the 1600m, Ama set a new school record in both the 300m hurdles and the 400m, and Keturah set a new school record in the 100m!! Way to go girls and good luck at the State meet in Albany!
Also, somehow I missed that Greg Jester set a new school record in the 100m at the McEachern meet. Way to go Greg!!
The boys Region meet is this Friday and Saturday at Roswell High School. The field events start Friday at 5pm and the running events start at 6:30pm. The meet will not start until 1pm on Saturday because of the SAT being given that morning. Directions to the meet can be found on our website at www.ahstaf.com. As soon as I get a schedule, I will forward it on to you. We are co-hosting the boys meet with Roswell this weekend and will need to provide volunteers to help the meet officials. I need 8-10 volunteers both Friday and Saturday. Volunteers are to meet Coach Hudson down on the field by 4:45 Friday and by 12:45 on Saturday. All volunteers will get in to the meet for free but I must know you will be volunteering by 5pm tomorrow (Thursday) so I can get a list of names over to Roswell High School. Athletes who are not competing can also volunteer if they would like. If you have Alpharetta Track spirit wear of any kind, please wear it if you are volunteering so it will be easier for the officials to identify volunteers. Please reply to this email and let me know if you will be volunteering either Friday or Saturday.
Alpharetta will be selling Region meet tshirts this weekend so be sure to stop by the tshirt tent and support our team and buy your Region meet tshirt for $15.
The end of year banquet date will be determined pending the results of this weekend's meet so hopefully by Monday we will have a date scheduled and a banquet committee can be formed. Thank you to Leah Narro for offering to do our end of year DVD for our banquet!! If you have any pictures you would like to share with Leah for the DVD, please put them on a disk and give it to Coach Hudson as soon as possible so Leah can get working on this.
Good luck boys this weekend. Go Raiders!! -melanie
